Rana + Aram

Rana and Aram met through mutual friends, at a conference. Although they have different passions in life: Rana is a Dentist and Aram is a policy analyst for the government of British Columbia, they found comfort in one another.

Food and music are some of the things that they both love. In their free time, they enjoy venturing out of their comfort zone in trying new foods and restaurants. They explain, that they can get lost watching Gordon Ramsay’s many shows on television. When it comes to music, two of their favorite genres are hip hop and EDM, and they love dancing together at concerts of their favorite artists. They recently added sports to their list of common interests as they both fell in love with soccer watching the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.

With so many things in common, when it came to planning their wedding, they both agreed on celebrating their union in the Riviera Maya, Mexico. And choosing the venue was easy as well, as they wanted one of the most beautiful beaches they could find. They chose Finest Playa Mujeres as their venue and were married on the modern gazebo facing the Caribbean Sea. It was also important for them to select wedding photographers in Cancun to document their story.

They represented their culture with a luxurious Persian ceremony including a Sofreh Aghd. For those of you who are not familiar with this term, a Sofreh Aghd is tradition that has been used for thousands of years in the Persian culture. The bride and groom are seated while the married women hold a decorative cloth over their heads. The newly wedded couple gets their first look at each other in a mirror, which is held by female relatives.

Once the couple sets eyes on one another, the married females of the family greet the couple one by one, rubbing sugar cones over the couple's heads and blessing them with the sweetness of love, happiness, and the possibility for children in the future. With the desire to fill each other’s lives with even more sweetness, the couple then take turns to dip their little fingers in honey and give each other a taste of it.

Following the ceremony, the couple and their guests headed to the terrace, where the incredible view and gentle sea breeze made the perfect setting for the beginning of their married lives. The reception also included Persian traditions, and one of our favorites was the Persian “knife dance”. Before Rana and Aram could cut their cake, one of the guests performed a Persian dance while holding a knife and asking the couple to for money to exchange for the knife. When Rana and Aram gathered the money and paid the dancer, they were surprised to see that the dancer did not give the knife to them. Instead, that dancer passed it onto another person, who then became the dancer! It was exciting and so much fun to see everyone get involved, and the Persian music that was played was a masterpiece in itself. After many dancers and a lot of money, Rana and Aram finally took possession of the knife and were able to cut their cake. This was the perfect transition to get everyone out of their seats and start the party.

It was an honor for a Cancun wedding photographer to capture the memories for Rana and Aram’s blissful celebration. We wish them many years of happiness and love.
